How they differ
Ready mix concrete is batched at a plant, then transported to your site in a rotating drum. The drum has to keep turning to prevent the concrete curing during transit — and the driver has around 90 minutes from batch to placement before it becomes unusable.
Volumetric concrete arrives dry. The truck carries cement, aggregates, water and admixtures in separate compartments and mixes them on-site to the exact specification you need, only when you’re ready.

Which should you choose?
For most domestic and small-to-medium commercial projects, volumetric concrete wins on price, flexibility and reduced risk. You don’t need to know your exact quantity in advance, you don’t pay for waste, and you’re not tied to a single mix.
Ready mix can still make sense for very large single pours (30m³+) where multiple trucks in convoy are more efficient — especially if there’s a batching plant very close to your site.

Volumetric is usually cheaper overall. Even when the price per m³ is similar, you avoid over-ordering, waste, disposal costs and return-load fees — saving 5–15% on the total.
Is volumetric concrete the same quality as ready mix?+
Yes, arguably better. Because volumetric is mixed on-site it has not started curing during transit, so workability and consistency are excellent.
When would ready mix be better than volumetric?+
Very large single pours (30m³+) with multiple trucks arriving in sequence can be more efficient with ready mix, especially near a major batching plant. For most domestic and small-commercial work, volumetric is superior.
